ARL President’s Institute in Chicago-Rosemont, February 12–13, 2025
A workplace with four or five generations working side by side is not a problem to be solved—it’s an opportunity to be leveraged. At the 2025 ARL President’s Institute, Janet Oh and Duncan Magidson from CoGenerate will present the Blixrud Memorial Keynote, “Cogeneration in the Workplace and in the World.” They will discuss how to tap the different and complementary skills and talents of multigenerational teammates to reap rewards.
Together, institute participants will learn how best to understand generation, age, and life stage while avoiding stereotypes; how to communicate using a wide variety of styles to suit all ages; how to manage power dynamics; and how to build an age-diverse team of creative problem-solvers.
This event is open to everyone!

About the President’s Institute
The President’s Institute seeks to provide opportunities for participation by ARL member institutions and others in our field each year during the start of the ARL presidency. One of the ARL Institutes, this interactive event convenes a broad community of individuals, subject-matter experts, middle managers, senior leaders, and general executives from ARL libraries and beyond on top-of-mind issues facing research libraries. As part of the President’s Institute, the Julia C. Blixrud Scholarship recipient is selected, attends, and writes a report on the institute to be published by ARL.
