Apply for ARL Leadership and Career Development Program—Deadline June 15

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) invites applications for the 2026 cohort of the Leadership and Career Development Program (LCDP)—a 13-month fellowship designed to remove barriers and cultivate leaders grounded in integrity and inclusivity by developing skills to navigate change, build supportive relationships, share power, engage communities, communicate with impact, and engage in critical inquiry, self-awareness, and leadership visioning.

Program Components

The LCDP engages fellows in intentionally varied and connected experiences over a 13-month period, including (subject to change):

  • Learning Summits: Fellows will attend two in-person learning summits.
  • ARL Association Meetings: Fellows will attend two ARL Fall Association Meetings.
  • Site Visits: Fellows will attend two multi-day, in-person site visits hosted by ARL member institutions.
  • Monthly Virtual Sessions: Fellows will participate in monthly educational sessions.
  • Mentor-Sponsor: Each fellow will engage in an individual mentor-sponsor relationship with an executive/senior leader in libraries.
  • Self-Assessments and Career Coaching: Each fellow will complete self-assessments, coupled with individual & group coaching sessions.
  • Clutch Project: Fellows will complete a small group project designed to develop knowledge, awareness, skills, and attitudes required to demonstrate effective leadership in research libraries.

Who Should Apply?

The LCDP is designed for evolving and established mid-level leaders working in research libraries and archives. To be eligible, applicants must possess a minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in a library, archive, or information professional in any setting, and demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing leadership roles within an institutional setting or within the profession.

Informational Session

ARL is hosting an informational session on Tuesday, May 12, 2:00–3:00 p.m. eastern daylight time, to share more about the LCDP and answer questions. A recording of the session will be posted.
