As research libraries work to meet 2026 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II deadlines, questions about the library’s role in remediating or otherwise facilitating access to accessible course content have arisen. Accessibility has long been a priority for our libraries, with notable collaborative activity around licensing terms and content testing. At the same time and in anticipation of his upcoming retirement, John Unsworth (Virginia) has spoken at ARL meetings about sustaining the future of the EMMA (Educational Materials Made Accessible) project, a specific initiative that has successfully tested a collaborative model with Disability Services Offices (DSO). How do we understand our role regarding accessible course content role on our own campuses? Are there collaborative activities (including any of the above mentioned) that we can or should scale up, and if so, which and on what financial and/or governance model(s)?
Join us for a Peer-to-Peer Confab on Accessible Course Content.
