ARL Libraries Celebrate Open Access Week 2021

International Open Access Week, organized by SPARC, is an opportunity for the academic and research community to learn about the benefits of open access, share what they’ve learned with colleagues, and help inspire wider participation in making open access a new norm in scholarship and research. The theme of International Open Access Week 2021, taking place October 25–31, is “It Matters How We Open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity.”

Below is a roundup of the events and news stories from Association of Research Libraries member libraries in celebration of Open Access Week 2021. To add an event or story to this list, email commteam@arl.org.

University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press is celebrating Open Access Week by implementing a new workflow for contacting faculty, staff, and grad students to congratulate them on recent publications, and to let them know that as publisher guidelines and embargoes allow, their articles will be made openly available through the UDSpace Institutional Repository. This workflow builds on UD’s Faculty Senate Open Access Resolution as well as data gathered from Google Scholar Alerts, in order to contact authors at the point of publication.

University of Wisconsin–Madison Libraries launched an Open Scholarship & Learning section of their website in celebration of Open Access Week 2021.
