Advancing Diversity, Inclusion, and Equality: Iowa State University

by Beth McNeil | Dean of the Library | on March 1, 2016

At Iowa State (ISU), president Steven Leath recently initiated a new senior-level position of vice president for diversity and inclusion, and Reginald Stewart joined ISU in this role on December 1, 2015. This search and appointment resulted from a recommendation in a comprehensive study of ISU diversity programs.

In December 2015, Parks Library was the location for a campus student protest. Students met in front of Parks Library and marched across campus and back to the library, where the protesters lay down on the floor inside the main entrance for 4.5 minutes of silence. The library’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee works with campus groups, such as Colegas, the Latina/o faculty and staff association, on ways to support students.
