Lunch Briefing: Fair Use & Research Innovation
Join the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) for a congressional staff briefing during Fair Use Week. The briefing will highlight how fair use fosters innovation and supports transdisciplinary research. Experts from the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA), the Re:Create Coalition, and the Rochester Institute of Technology will discuss the critical role of fair use in enabling groundbreaking research across disciplines, from artificial intelligence to digital humanities.
Speakers will share real-world examples of how fair use empowers researchers to analyze vast datasets, develop new technologies, and generate insights that drive economic growth and societal benefits. The discussion will also address the legal and policy landscape of fair use, emphasizing its importance in maintaining the United States’ leadership in research and innovation.
This briefing is designed to inform congressional staff about the essential balance fair use provides in copyright law, ensuring that researchers, educators, and creators can continue to advance knowledge and innovation.
