Anne Seymour Appointed Vice-Provost (Libraries) and University Librarian for University of Manitoba

The University of Manitoba (UM) has appointed Anne Seymour as vice-provost (Libraries) and university librarian, effective March 1, 2026, through February 28, 2031. She also holds an appointment as a continuing librarian within UM Libraries.

Anne Seymour joins UM from Johns Hopkins University, where she served as associate dean and director of the Welch Medical Library, overseeing library and information services for the schools of medicine, nursing, and public health, as well as the Johns Hopkins Health System. She also held faculty appointments across all three health science schools, including as assistant professor of medicine in the Department of Medicine—Biomedical Informatics and Data Science Section. In addition, Anne served as the interim director of the Chesney Medical Archives.

Her previous experience includes such leadership roles as associate director of the Biomedical Library at the University of Pennsylvania and assistant director of the Biomedical Academic Computing Center at Georgetown University Medical Center’s library.

Anne holds a master of science in information science from Drexel University and an undergraduate degree in fine art from Brown University. Throughout her career in academic healthcare institutions, she has championed the delivery of quality, evidence-based information at the point of need, leveraging digital systems to support clinical care, research, and education.

Throughout her career, Anne has been active in local, national, and international academic organizations, including the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL), Medical Library Association (MLA), International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), and Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation (IPLC). She has also served on the National Library of Medicine’s Biomedical Informatics, Library, and Data Sciences (BILDS) grant review panel.
