The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is excited to announce the co-hosts of the 2025 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Institute. The Indiana University Libraries Bloomington, Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies, and the UC San Diego Library will co-host the inaugural DEI Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana, Monday–Wednesday, March 17–19, 2025.
ARL Institutes are designed to meet the needs of ARL member representatives, senior leaders, and the broader community for a concentrated period on timely topics.
The ARL DEI Institute aims to increase the capacity of participants to effect positive change with and within their respective communities through the acquisition and application of specific knowledge, awareness, and skills related to DEI, organizational development, and leadership. This work is currently made possible through the generous support of an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program implementation grant (RE-254925-OLS-23).
“The Indiana University Libraries are honored to partner with our colleagues at Purdue University Libraries, UC San Diego Library, and the Association of Research Libraries to host the 2025 ARL Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Institute at our Indianapolis campus,” said Diane Dallis-Comentale, Ruth Lilly Dean of University Libraries at Indiana University. “We look forward to welcoming participants and providing a rich, meaningful, and inspiring learning experience.”
“The Purdue University Libraries and School of Information studies is delighted to co-host this important event with ARL and our institutional partners,” said Beth McNeil, dean of Libraries and Esther Ellis Norton Professor of Library Science at Purdue University. “Piloting the DEI Institute will provide another avenue for moving this critical work forward in a coordinated way. The project helps bring to fruition ideas generated by planning processes initiated at ARL more than four years ago. It is great to support this important project, to track its development, and to witness the impact on our institutions and profession.”
“This action-oriented program will set the stage for meaningful and impactful DEI work in academic and research libraries,” said Dani Brecher Cook, associate university librarian, learning and user experience, UC San Diego Library. “The UC San Diego Library is delighted to co-sponsor the inaugural ARL DEI Institute in 2025.”
