Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) has promoted Arnold Hirshon to vice provost and university librarian, effective July 1, 2019. He served as associate provost and university librarian at CWRU since 2010.
In a message to the CWRU community, provost Ben Vinson III noted that Hirshon has led the Kelvin Smith Library through a comprehensive redesign, expanded the scope of the Freedman Center for Digital Scholarship, and moved special collections materials into the mainstream of learning and research. This year, the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) selected the Kelvin Smith Library to receive the Excellence in Academic Libraries Award in the university category.
Hirshon has been active in the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), serving on the Assessment Visioning Task Force in 2017, the Innovation Lab Advisory Group in 2016–2017, the Research and Analytics Committee in 2015–2016, the Libraries That Learn Design Team in 2015–2016, and the Statistics and Assessment Committee in 2012–2015.
