The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) sent letters urging congressional committees that provide oversight and appropriations for the US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) to protect NARA’s crucial role in safeguarding vital government records that document the legacy of America’s history. The letters highlighted NARA’s critical work helping veterans access documentation needed to get critical benefits, digitizing information and making it available to the public where appropriate, and declassifying documents.

“ARL’s members across the US rely on the National Archives and Records Administration to serve their communities,” said Katherine Klosek, ARL’s director of Information Policy and Federal Relations. “We are willing to work with Congress as appropriate, and we hope that Congress sees ARL and our members as a resource.”
