Bill Kelly Appointed Mellon Director of Research Libraries at New York Public Library

The New York Public Library (NYPL) has named William (Bill) P. Kelly the Andrew W. Mellon director of the Research Libraries, effective in January 2016. Kelly was formerly interim chancellor of the City University of New York (CUNY) and president of the CUNY Graduate Center. Additionally, he is the current chairman of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. At NYPL, Kelly will succeed Ann Thornton, who departed May 31, 2015, to become university librarian and vice provost at Columbia University after three years as the Mellon director and almost two decades at NYPL.
