The University of Houston (UH) has promoted long-term library leader Christina H. Gola as its new dean of University Libraries.
Christina has been part of the UH community for over 16 years, serving as the libraries’ interim dean since March 2024 and, previously, as the associate dean for Organizational Development, Learning and Talent. Prior to joining the UH family, Christina worked at her alma mater Texas A&M University as the Undergraduate Education and Outreach coordinator.
In her new role, Christina will continue to build strategic partnerships, expand study spaces, upgrade technologies, and support the growth of collections. These efforts include continuing UH’s journey of reimagining and designing the university’s library landscape, which will ensure that the library supports current and future institutional needs as a tier-one public research university.
As a third-generation librarian, Christina’s career began when she majored in political science and government as an undergraduate student at Texas A&M, it continued as she matriculated through her MLIS program at the University of North Texas, and it persists today as she leads the creative work of helping the UH community support scholarship and connect it to the broader academic community.
Christina’s influence is felt far beyond UH. She has played an active role in both the Texas Library Association, as president 2020–21, and the Association of Research Libraries, where she served as a mentor-sponsor of a Leadership and Career Development Program (LCDP) fellow 2022–23, a Leadership Fellows Program representative to the Code of Conduct Implementation Task Force 2020, and a Leadership Fellow 2018–19.
