Georgetown University has named Harriette Hemmasi as dean of the library, effective August 1, 2018.

Hemmasi is currently Joukowsky Family University Librarian at Brown University, a position she has held since September 2005. She serves as an Association of Research Libraries (ARL) representative on the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) Steering Committee. She was also a member of the 2004–2006 cohort of ARL Leadership Fellows.

At Georgetown, Hemmasi will succeed Artemis Kirk, who retired in October 2017, after leading the Georgetown University Library for 16 years. Peggy Fry has been serving as interim university librarian since September 2017.

For more details about Hemmasi and this transition, see the June 19, 2018, Georgetown University news release, “From Brown to Georgetown: Meet the New Dean of the Library.”
