University of Alberta (UAlberta) has appointed Dale Askey as vice-provost (Learning Services) and chief librarian, effective August 15, 2018.

Askey is currently associate university librarian for Library & Learning Technologies and administrative director of the Lewis & Ruth Sherman Centre for Digital Scholarship at McMaster University. He is also an Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Leadership Fellow (2018–2019).

At UAlberta, Askey will succeed Gerald Beasley, who stepped down in July 2017 to take the position of university librarian at Cornell University, after almost four years leading the UAlberta Libraries. Kathleen DeLong has been serving as interim vice-provost and chief librarian since August 2017.

For more information about Askey and his appointment, see the May 14, 2018, post on UAlberta’s The Quad blog, “Announcing the New Vice-Provost (Learning Services) and Chief Librarian.”
