Elaine Westbrooks Appointed University Librarian and Vice Provost for Libraries at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

The University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill has named Elaine L. Westbrooks as university librarian and vice provost for university libraries, effective August 15, 2017. Westbrooks is associate university librarian for research at the University of Michigan. She participated in the ARL Leadership & Career Development Program in 2007–2008 and is currently a member of the Association’s Assessment Program Visioning Task Force.

At UNC, Westbrooks will succeed Sarah Michalak, who retired December 31, 2016, after 12 years as the university’s library director. Carol Hunter has been serving as interim university librarian since January 1, 2017; she will retire from UNC October 1, 2017.
