The Michigan State University (MSU) Board of Trustees has named Joseph Salem dean of University Libraries, effective September 6, 2019. Salem joined the MSU Libraries as director and university librarian in August 2018.

Salem oversees services, collections, facilities, budgets, personnel, fund-raising, and technology for the MSU Libraries. He has led an effort to address all of these areas in a new and comprehensive strategic plan, set for completion later this fall.

Salem is active in the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), currently serving on the Research & Analytics Committee and the Salary Survey Task Force. He was a member of the ARL Academy Advisory Group (2016–2018) and an ARL Leadership Fellow (2016–2017).

For more information about Salem and his title change, see the September 10, 2019, MSU Today story, “Joseph Salem Named Dean of MSU Libraries.”
