Michigan State University (MSU) has recommended Joseph Salem Jr. to serve as director of MSU Libraries and university librarian, effective no later than August 1, 2018, pending approval by the MSU Board of Trustees.

Salem is currently associate dean for learning, undergraduate services, and Commonwealth Campus Libraries at Penn State University Libraries. He was an Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Leadership Fellow (2016–2017) and a Leading Change Institute Fellow (2014).

At MSU, Salem will succeed Cliff Haka, who is retiring upon the arrival of the next director (see page 2 of PDF), after leading the MSU Libraries for 21 years.
