
Karim Boughida has been appointed as the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) member representative to the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) Steering Committee for the 2024–2027 term.
Boughida has been dean of University Libraries for Stony Brook University (SUNY) since September 2022. Prior to Stony Brook, he was dean of University Libraries at the University of Rhode Island for seven years. Boughida’s previous roles included being an associate university librarian for digital initiatives and technical services at the George Washington University, senior information systems architect at Getty Research Institute Library, and senior product manager at Endeavor Information Systems.
He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and seminars and holds positions on multiple boards. These include his past service on the Boston Library Consortium board; his current role as the chair of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) board, from which he will be stepping down on July 1, 2024, as he transitions to past chair; and his ongoing involvement with the American Library Association (ALA) Presidential Advisory Committee. Additionally, he has contributed to the editorial boards of the International Journal on Digital Libraries and the Journal of the Special Libraries Association Arabian–Gulf Chapter.
Two other ARL member representatives serve on the CNI Steering Committee: Lisa R. Carter, university librarian and dean of libraries for the University of Michigan, serving 2022–2025, and Sarah Shreeves, the Alice Sheets Marriott Dean of Libraries for The University of Utah, serving 2023–2026. Representatives serve three-year terms; the CNI Steering Committee meets throughout the year to guide CNI programming and development.
CNI is a joint initiative of ARL and EDUCAUSE that promotes the use of information technology to advance scholarship and education.
