The University of Kansas (KU) has named Kevin L. Smith dean of libraries, effective in May 2016. Smith is currently director of copyright and scholarly communication at Duke University. At KU, he will succeed Lorraine Haricombe, who departed December 12, 2014, to become vice provost and director of libraries at the University of Texas at Austin after eight years as dean at KU. Associate deans Kent Miller and Mary Roach have served as interim co-deans at KU since December 13, 2014.
