Leslie Weir Named Librarian and Archivist of Canada

The Government of Canada has appointed Leslie Weir as Librarian and Archivist of Canada for a four-year term, effective August 30, 2019. Weir will be the first woman to hold this position since the National Archives of Canada and the National Library of Canada merged in 2004 to form Library and Archives Canada.

Weir was the university librarian at the University of Ottawa from 2003 to 2018 and has served on the ARL Board of Directors since 2016.

She will succeed Guy Berthiaume, who has been the Librarian and Archivist of Canada since 2014.
