The University of Minnesota has appointed Lisa A. German university librarian and dean of libraries, effective February 28, 2020, pending approval by the Board of Regents at its December meeting.

German has served as dean of libraries and Elizabeth D. Rockwell Chair at the University of Houston Libraries since 2015. She previously held leadership positions for the libraries of Penn State University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

At the University of Minnesota, German will succeed Wendy Pradt Lougee (see page 3 of PDF), who will retire February 28, 2020, after serving as university librarian and dean of libraries and McKnight Presidential Professor since June 2002.

German is active in the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), serving on the ARL Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (2017–2020) and the Digital Content Task Force (2019–2021). She has also been a mentor for the ARL Leadership Fellows Program, and was a fellow in the program’s inaugural cohort (2004–2006).
