Liz Lorang Named Dean of University Libraries for University of Nebraska–Lincoln

Liz Lorang

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) has appointed Elizabeth “Liz” Lorang dean of the University Libraries, effective December 1, 2023.

Lorang served as interim dean of UNL University Libraries May 2–November 30, 2023. She began her UNL career as research assistant professor in the Department of English and Center for Digital Research in the Humanities. In 2013, she joined the University Libraries, first as digital humanities projects librarian in 2016 and then associate dean of research and learning in 2018.

In the field, Lorang serves on advisory boards for the Data Curation Network and the National Indian Boarding School Digital Archive, and she has partnered with the Library of Congress in multiple roles, including as an adviser to the Computing Cultural Heritage in the Cloud initiative.

Lorang holds a bachelor of science in English from Towson University, a master of arts in information science and learning technology from the University of Missouri, and a doctorate in English from UNL.

For the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), Lorang serves on the Scholars and Scholarship Committee (2021–2023). She is an alumna of the ARL Leadership Fellows Program (2021–2022).

At UNL, Lorang succeeds Claire Stewart, who led the UNL Libraries for four years. Stewart stepped down to become the Juanita J. and Robert E. Simpson Dean of Libraries and University Librarian Designate at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
