University of Cincinnati has appointed Lori E. Harris interim dean and university librarian, effective July 1, 2022.

Harris initially joined the University of Cincinnati (UC) Libraries in 2015 as an associate fellow from the US National Institutes of Health/National Library of Medicine (NIH/NLM). She permanently joined the UC Libraries in 2016. At UC, Harris previously served as assistant dean and director of the Donald C. Harrison Health Sciences Library and the Henry R. Winkler Center for the History of the Health Professions. More recently, she co-led the development of the UC Libraries’ strategic framework “NEXT Directions.” She has served on the reaccreditation committee for the College of Medicine and she currently represents the Health Sciences Library on the College of Medicine’s Education Committee.

Harris obtained her MA MSLS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her BA in American studies, museum studies, and archives from Smith College.

At the University of Cincinnati, Harris will serve as interim dean and university librarian while the university searches for a successor to Xuemao Wang, who has accepted a position at Northwestern University as the Charles Deering McCormick University Librarian and Dean of Libraries, effective September 1, 2022.
