University of Notre Dame has appointed Margaret Meserve the interim Edward H. Arnold Dean of Hesburgh Libraries and University Press, effective August 1, 2024. In addition to her interim appointment, she will continue to serve as vice president and associate provost for academic space and support as well as professor of history.
As a historian of the Italian Renaissance, Margaret is well versed on the history of the book, humanist culture, and the papacy in the 15th and 16th centuries. Margaret completed her undergraduate studies at Harvard and her master’s and doctoral degrees in Renaissance history from the Warburg Institute at the University of London. She was a curator for two years in the Incunabula Section of the British Library.
Margaret’s announcement comes on the heels of K. Matthew Dames’ transition to his new role of special advisor to the provost, after leading the libraries for three years. Dames also served as ARL president for 2022.
