Martha Whitehead Named Leader of Harvard Library

Harvard University has appointed Martha Whitehead as university librarian, vice president for the Harvard Library, and the Roy E. Larsen Librarian for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, effective in June 2019.

Whitehead currently serves as vice-provost and university librarian at Queen’s University in Ontario. She also serves on the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Leadership Fellows Advisory Group and the ARL Working Group on Transformation at Scale. She was an ARL Leadership Fellow in 2007–2008.

At Harvard, Whitehead will succeed Sarah Thomas, who retired at the end of 2018, after leading the libraries for five years.
