Join your colleagues from across the US and Canada and be inspired by how generational inclusion can improve library services. Libraries are spaces where people from different disciplines and backgrounds come together to learn and collaborate—how does generational diversity enhance this story?

“As someone who started my undergraduate degree in my late 20s, I found that my institution didn’t always know what to do with me or how to help. The library ended up filling those gaps in important ways. It’s part of what drew me to the field.”

—Roshan Panjwani, President’s Institute panelist, MSLS student at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

This event is for you if you:

  • Manage a multigenerational library team
  • Manage, train, or work with student library employees
  • Design library services or spaces used by people of different ages
  • Are interested in attracting the next generation of library talent to the profession
  • Are keen to explore age difference as an element of diversity
  • Are engaged in succession planning

Participants will leave with resources and a plan for how to bring multigenerational collaboration to their libraries.

About the President’s Institute

The President’s Institute seeks to provide opportunities for participation by ARL member institutions and others in our field each year during the start of the ARL presidency. One of the ARL Institutes, this interactive event convenes a broad community of individuals, subject-matter experts, middle managers, senior leaders, and general executives from ARL libraries and beyond on top-of-mind issues facing research libraries. As part of the President’s Institute, the Julia C. Blixrud Scholarship recipient is selected, attends, and writes a report on the institute to be published by ARL.
