Rhea Ballard-Thrower Named University Librarian and Dean of Libraries for University of Illinois Chicago

The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) has appointed Rhea Ballard-Thrower as university librarian and dean of libraries, effective February 1, 2021, pending approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees. Ballard-Thrower is currently the executive director of the Howard University Libraries and an associate professor in the Howard University School of Law.

At UIC, Ballard-Thrower will succeed Mary Case,  who retired on July 31, 2020, after leading the libraries since 2004. Karen Colley, dean of the UIC Graduate College, has been serving as interim university librarian and dean of libraries since August 1, 2020.
