University of Colorado (CU) Boulder has appointed Robert H. McDonald as senior vice provost of online education and dean of the University Libraries, effective September 1, 2019.
McDonald has served as dean of CU Boulder Libraries since August 2018. He led the university’s Academic Futures–Financial Futures Online Strategy Working Group during the past academic year and is currently the Financial Futures Workstream Sponsor for Online Strategy. He is now charged with leading campus efforts to develop a new hub for online education
McDonald has served a number of national and international organizations and conferences, currently including the HathiTrust Board of Governors and the Joint Conference on Digital Libraries Steering Committee. In recent years, his research has been centered on digital libraries and large-scale humanities cyberinfrastructure, encompassing data analytics, mass-scale storage, and digital preservation through grant-funded and collaborative projects such as the HathiTrust Research Center.
McDonald is active in the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), serving on the ARL-CNI Fall Forum 2019 Program Planning Committee and the ARL Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (2019–2022). He is also active in the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL), having recently served on the ACRL 2019 Conference program committee.
