The University of Massachusetts (UMass) Amherst has appointed Sarah Hutton interim dean of libraries, effective August 22, 2021.

Hutton has served as head of Student Success and Engagement for the UMass Amherst Libraries since 2019. Prior to her current role, she was head of the libraries’ Undergraduate Teaching and Learning Services for almost 10 years.

Hutton will serve as interim dean while UMass searches for a successor to Simon Neame, who will begin his new role as dean of libraries at University of Washington on September 1, 2021.

To assist with the leadership transition process, UMass has appointed Jennifer Friedman, associate dean for Research and Learning, to serve as acting dean of libraries July 25–August 21, 2021.

For more information about Hutton and this transition, see the UMass Libraries news release, “UMass Amherst Libraries Announce New Interim Dean.”
