The University of New Mexico (UNM) will soon welcome Mark Emmons to lead the College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences (CULLS); he was named dean, effective August 24, and his appointment will continue through January 31, 2027. The announcement, coinciding with the beginning of the fall semester, follows news that former dean Leo Lo is transitioning to the University of Virginia (UVA).
Mark, a long-term respected leader in the UNM community, became a member of the faculty in July 1998. He currently serves as professor and associate dean for Administration and Organizational Strategy, and previously served as the interim dean of CULLS, the associate dean of Education and Engagement, and associate dean of Public Services.
Mark’s research interests focus on assessment in academic libraries, student success, and film research. Mark, who is bilingual, earned his baccalaureate degree in communication studies, and has a master of library science, both from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA); he later earned his doctorate of educational leadership from UNM.
