
Timothy M. McGeary (16LFP Fellow) has been appointed as the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) member representative to the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) Steering Committee for the 2026–2029 term.
Tim McGeary is the university librarian and Andrew H. and Janet Dayton Neilly Dean of Libraries at the University of Rochester, where he leads with a blend of strategic vision, technological insight, and a deep commitment to advancing the role of libraries in research, teaching, and community engagement. Previously, Tim spent more than a decade at Duke University, serving from September 2014 to February 2026 as the associate university librarian for Digital Strategies & Technology, where he guided major initiatives in digital infrastructure and scholarly innovation to build sustainable partnerships for research and scholarship. Tim also served at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and he began his career in academic libraries at Lehigh University.
Tim holds both a bachelor of arts in music and a master of science in information & systems engineering from Lehigh University, reflecting an academic path that bridges creativity, design, systems thinking, and information-driven strategic leadership. A nationally respected leader in library technology, digital strategy, and research infrastructure, Tim’s work continues to foster the academic library community to empower discovery, support digital transformation, and connect people meaningfully with knowledge.
Tim joins two ARL member representatives on the CNI Steering Committee: Karen Estlund, dean of Colorado State University Libraries, serving 2025–2028, and Karim Boughida, dean of Stony Brook University Libraries, serving 2024–2027. Representatives serve three-year terms; the CNI Steering Committee meets throughout the year to guide CNI programming and development.
