The Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) has selected the University of Maryland Libraries to receive the 2020 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award in the university category. ACRL is honoring the University of Maryland Libraries for their “contributions to digital humanities scholarship and…engagement with students, faculty, and outside partners.”

“The University of Maryland Libraries stand out amongst their peers for the development of a robust library staff culture of innovation, as well as their extensive collaborations and engagement with the university’s core curriculum, students, and faculty,” said Cheryl Middleton, chair of the 2020 Excellence in Academic Libraries Committee. “The influence and impact of the libraries’ partnerships can be seen throughout the institution.”

The University of Maryland is one of three institutions—a college, a community college, and a university—being recognized with the Excellence in Academic Libraries award this year. Of the 21 university library recipients of this award since the program started in 2000, 13 have been Association of Research Libraries (ARL) members, including University of Maryland.
