Why IDEAL? Sustainability and Community

15–17 July 2024, Toronto, Ontario, IDEAL: Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility in Libraries & ArchivesJoin us at IDEAL 2024 in lovely Toronto, Ontario, this summer for learning opportunities and to develop international connections!

The theme of IDEAL 2024 is Sustainable Resistance and Restoration in Global Communities. Sustainable practices are essential to creating equitable systems and structures that last. Restoration in community means re-establishing connection while working with and within historically underserved spaces.

At IDEAL you can choose from sessions like “Exploring Workplace Inclusivity Through the Lenses of Climate, Employee Engagement, and Belonging”; “Sustainable Practices for the Retention of BIPOC Librarians”; and “Supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals on Education—What’s in It for Libraries?,” all from the Sustainable Practices track that intends to help participants build attitudes, awareness, skills, and knowledge about sustainability in the workplace and beyond.

We also invite you to join us in building a Community of Care to support the individual and collective needs of the group at the conference. What is a Community of Care? It is a model for how to extend self-care into community-care, which removes the burden of navigating problematic systems and harmful cultural norms from the individual. At IDEAL, we will practice a Community of Care by offering masks, asking folks to be fragrance-free, and creating curated processing spaces like a quiet room and a sensory station.

All of this and more at IDEAL 2024—Register now!

Please note: GROUP RATES for five or more individuals are available. Reach out to ARL at events@arl.org for more information on group rates.
