ARL Letter Opposing Pro Codes Act

Last Updated on April 9, 2024, 4:49 pm ET

On February 7, 2024, ARL sent a letter to Congress explaining why we oppose the Pro Codes Act. Extending copyright to codes and standards that are incorporated by reference into law would inhibit public access to information. Even if standards incorporated into the law by reference could retain copyright protection, their reproduction would be a fair use. Library associations, civil society organizations, and disability rights groups signed the letter. These letters were updated April 9, 2024 to reflect new signees.
