Open Access, Shared Values, Different Paths: Exploring Options to Move Open Scholarship ForwardThe scholarly community has been actively discussing how to move toward open scholarship. Several models have emerged with much focus on the economic impact of each model. This panel will explore the public policy issues associated with the different, proposed paths, what trade-offs might need to happen to hasten progress to open scholarship, as well as possible unintended consequences of each path forward. Disciplinary Public GoodsLibraries support a number of public content goods by licensing them or contributing membership fees. A mounting body of evidence indicates that supporting mechanisms are no longer sustainable in the long term. This session aims to present a range of views on what fits in the category of public content goods, possible support models, and principles that address collective action. The responders are asked to comment on these proposals and their feasibility. In particular, they should address funding/sustainability strategies and the potential disruption to the scholarly communication chain such proposals would bring. Moderator: Speakers: |
