POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES TITLE: Associate Librarian – Catalog Librarian (open rank) POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the head Librarian in charge of Technical Processing, the tenure-track Catalog Librarian will be responsible for the original cataloging of materials in a variety of formats as well as complex copy cataloging. The Catalog Librarian will also be responsible for the creation of metadata for digital collections. The Librarian will assist with the selection of cataloging/metadata projects for the department, as well as setting priorities for those projects. As a Texas Tech University faculty member the incumbent will be expected to engage in scholarly pursuits and other professional activities in accordance with Texas Tech Library’s standards for promotion and tenure. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Serves as a member on teams and committees as needed, or as a resource. - Follows established and published policies and procedures of the University. - Completes weekly and monthly reports and statistics and other documentation as needed. - Catalogs items ranging from digitally born oral histories to manuscript materials. - Oversees student assistants on metadata projects. - Supports cataloging and metadata needs of the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library program. Preferred: Experience (professional or non-professional) cataloging in an academic library using an integrated library system and OCLC. The librarian should have experience creating metadata using Dublin Core. Familiarization with current library and archival standards in cataloging and metadata creation including, but not limited to, EAD, MARC, Dublin Core, AACR2rev, and XML. Experience with RDA is also preferred. The candidate must have a strong customer service orientation and, should have organizational and communication acumen. Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team. Ability to manage multiple tasks, with excellent organizational and follow-up skills. Leadership and supervisory skills are a plus. SALARY AND BENEFITS: The position is a 12-month appointment with a nationally competitive salary.
