Florida State University Libraries seek an experienced librarian with a strong background in acquisitions management for the position of Monographic Acquisitions Librarian. This position will provide leadership for new approaches for acquiring and managing monographic information resources in all formats; establish policies and procedures associated with ordering, receiving, and payment activities; monitor vendor contacts, statistical reports, negotiations, and licensing to secure products and services; oversee gift receipts and processing operations; and manage the acquisitions module of the integrated library management system. Communicates with faculty and liaison librarians as needed. The position provides strategic leadership and coordinates the day-to-day activities including personnel management, resource/budget management and setting and communicating unit priorities. Supervises three support staff and works closely with Collection Development Subject Specialists, Catalogers, Electronic Resources and Serials Acquisitions staff.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the Library’s primary contact for monograph vendors (includes electronic demand-driven acquisitions and approval plan management), and publisher representatives.
  • Conducts negotiations to secure discounts, ensure quality services, and handle licensing-related issues
  • Manages the Libraries’ information resources funding allocation and provides reports on expenditures and encumbrances to the Associate Dean for Collection Development and Access.
  • Manages acquisition of monographic resources, both print and electronic, including the review of e-books, various usage-based acquisitions models and one-time purchases.
  • Oversees daily processes and activities of a staff performing ordering, receiving, MARC record loads, preliminary cataloging, gift processing, and cost accounting.
  • Manages orders associated with the following programs: 1) New Faculty Grants, 2) Faculty Senate Library Committee’s Research Grants, 3) Honoring Newly Tenured Faculty program and communicates with affected faculty as needed.
  • Represents the department and the Libraries throughout FSU and at state, regional, and national levels.
  • Participates in committees, task forces, working groups and in professional associations.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters degree from an ALA-accredited library program.
  • 2 years experience in an academic or research library or equivalent.
  • Excellent understanding of acquisitions processes and technology, including integrated library systems and vendor databases.
  • Ability to assess, develop and implement new workflow efficiencies.
  • Managerial experience, supervising and organizing the work of others.
  • Knowledge of budgets and statistical reporting.
  • Experience working collegially with the University’s faculty.
  • Ability to actively foster teamwork with librarians and library staff.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior acquisitions experience in an academic or research library or equivalent.
  • Experience in teaching or training.
Salary:
Minimum $55,000. Offer commensurate with education and qualifications.
 
Additional Details:
This is a full-time, 12-month non-tenured faculty appointment. Benefits include 22 days vacation, 13 days sick leave, group medical, dental, and life insurance, an optional retirement program or state retirement, and no state or local income tax. With Dean’s approval, may qualify for University tuition scholarship for up to six hours credit each semester.
