In support of the University Libraries' mission and shared values, the Research and Education Division fosters collaborations that contribute to our users' academic success, research, and lifelong learning. This mission is realized through instruction of learners using a variety of methods and tools; partnerships with faculty to create an integrated, assessable, information literacy-focused curriculum; provision of targeted information resources; expert, point-of need research assistance; and a commitment to fostering competencies for lifelong inquiry.

Role of the Position

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Research & Education, the incumbent will be responsible for the leadership, ongoing development, and day-to-day management of library services, operations, and staffing related to the Library Liaison Program. Managing a department of 10 liaison librarians who work with specific academic programs, the Head/Liaison will coordinate with other department heads to manage the liaison role as educational partner and instructor as well as in collection assessment and development. The incumbent will work with the Digital Scholarship department to assess needs and promote services related to scholarly communication and open access initiatives and support liaisons in their outreach roles. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

·         Supports development of the Liaison Program and its vision, mission, and service principles, ensuring the Liaison Program supports the educational and research missions.

·         Serves as an advocate for department within the Library and on campus to effectively deploy the disciplinary knowledge and skills of liaisons.

·         Partners with library colleagues to create programs and services for the UNLV community that support research, scholarship, teaching and learning.

·         Works with liaisons and other library colleagues to plan, set direction, and establish priorities for the liaison program and initiatives.

The successful candidates will have demonstrated ability to work in a complex, changing environment with a positive, flexible, and innovative attitude; a proven capacity to work effectively and collegially on teams with staff at all levels, as well as with students, staff, and faculty. As a faculty member, the incumbent will be expected to engage in scholarly activities and to provide service to the university, community, and profession in accordance with UNLV and University Libraries standards for promotion and tenure.

Required Qualifications

·         ALA-accredited graduate degree in library or information science.

·         Minimum of five years of professional-level experience in academic libraries.

·         Experience with liaison services in academic libraries and familiarity with topics such as scholarly communication, open access, research data management, and data services.

·         Working knowledge of information literacy trends and experience in designing and providing instructional sessions and forging faculty partnerships on course and curriculum design.

·         Ability to lead liaison team in the development of, planning for, and implementation of innovative liaison services and programs.

·         Demonstrated leadership expertise and ability to coordinate multiple projects; to set direction and establish priorities for self and others; to communicate essential information about projects to stakeholders; to analyze and problem solve collaboratively; to meet deadlines and complete projects on time and within budget while working with minimal supervision.

·         Excellent organizational, project, and time management skills.

·         Expertise in leadership, communication, consensus building coupled with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

·         Ability to create an environment of collegiality and collaboration and to work effectively with a diverse campus population and with external constituencies.

·         Ability to supervise, coach, mentor librarians at different career levels (new, mid-career, senior) and familiarity with tenure and promotion processes.

·         Demonstrated technology proficiency and capabilities working with personal computers and software, the Web, and library-relevant information technology applications.

·         Commitment to creating and maintaining an inclusive environment/workplace for students, researchers, and employees.

·         Record of professional engagement and scholarship (presentations, publications, research) sufficient to meet criteria for appointment as either a tenure-track faculty member (Rank II) OR as a tenured faculty member (Rank III).

Preferred Qualifications

·         Two or more years of experience in supervising public services librarians in an academic library or in leading and managing teams, departments, or branch libraries.

·         Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with campus entities.

·         Ability to lead the strategic development of content for library users related to library services and resources, research strategies, etc., and integration of developed content across multiple platforms (website, guides, etc.)

·         Experience in strategic planning, introducing and managing change in complex environments, and evidence-based assessment.

·         Working knowledge of library-related systems (LSPs, discovery systems, LibGuides, LibAnalytics, etc.).

·         Experience in grant writing.

Salary Range

This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position at Rank II (tenure-track) or Rank III (tenured); ranks equivalent to an Assistant or Associate Professor. Salary range starts at $ 65,000 – salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, University Libraries is committed to and helps fund professional development opportunities. Salaries are competitive with those at similarly situated institutions and dependent upon labor market. Positions are contingent upon funding.
