Member Briefing on the Executive Order on Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping (Invitation Only)

Friday, October 23, 2020 @ 3:00 pm4:00 pm

Please join other member representatives on Friday, October 23 at 3:00 p.m. ET to hear from Steven Bloom and Anne Meehan, Assistant Vice Presidents of Government Relations, American Council on Education in response to the Executive Order on Combatting Race and Sex Stereotyping. They will provide insights to this EO as well as to its relationship with other Executive Orders such as the EO on Equal Employment Opportunity, the EO on Free Enquiry, Transparency and Accountability at Colleges and Universities, and to the First Amendment.

Steven Bloom and Anne Meehan will be prepared to answer your questions regarding the implications to the First Amendment and potential legal challenges, as well as specific information that federal agencies are already taking. Given the broad community engagement ACE has with other associations, they will share how presidents/provosts/federal relations officers are choosing to respond to and interpret the Executive Order.

Background materials on the EO on Combatting Race and Sex Stereotyping can be found here [member login required]. The ARL Board also signed the ACE letter to the White House to withdraw the EO and ARL issued its own statement to the White House to withdraw the executive order.

Login instructions were sent on October 19 to the ARL-DIRECTORS list.
