University of Alberta has appointed Kathleen De Long as interim vice-provost and chief librarian, effective August 1, 2017, to June 30, 2018, or until a new vice-provost and chief librarian is appointed. De Long has served as associate university librarian at Alberta, with an earlier term as interim vice-provost and chief librarian July 1–December 31, 2016.

The university is conducting a search for a successor to Gerald Beasley, who stepped down July 31, 2017, to accept the position of university librarian at Cornell University. Beasley led the University of Alberta Libraries since July 1, 2013.

For more details about this transition and about De Long, see the June 15, 2017, post on The Quad “Appointment of the Interim Vice-Provost and Chief Librarian.”
