Associate Librarian - Access Services Librarian (Open Rank)

The Access Services Librarian provides creative leadership and direction in the planning, development, and management of circulation services, stacks maintenance, remote storage, service desks, and library security. The Access Services Librarian assumes a prominent role in strategic planning, budgeting, and communication for public library services, collection access, and facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise staff and student employees, ensuring that the University Library is adequately staffed
• Train staff to effectively use an array of technologies and services that are essential to efficiently complete the work of the department
• Manage and set priorities and goals for frontline services staff
• Communicate and work effectively with librarians, staff, technical services, and collections units to improve service coordination
• Oversee department scheduling for service desks collection maintenance projects and activities; coordinate efficient service delivery
• Work collaboratively with library staff, vendors, and campus e-learning and disability resources staff to ensure accessible, convenient, and seamless access to services
• Maintain procedural documentation to ensure work is completed efficiently and accurately
• Develop web content to explain and promote department services
• Represent department on appropriate committees, task forces, and working groups to ensure user-focused services
• Resolve problems and answer questions from library users and other libraries
• Continuously assess the performance of the unit for process improvements and write reports to support a variety of services
• Evaluate and integrate new technology
• Take a leadership role in related professional organizations
• Work to create an environment of inclusivity and service for a diverse campus population
• Work in conjunction with the Assistant Dean for User Centered Services to provide organizational analytics that describe the impact of the department’s services to the library, campus and beyond.

The Access Services Librarian is a member of the Texas Tech University Libraries faculty whose responsibilities include actively pursuing academic publishing, professional development, instruction, and service to the Libraries, University, and community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library program.

Preferred:

Record of progressively responsible experience in academic libraries; Evidence of outstanding leadership ability; Understanding of public services functions, best practices and current trends; Strong service orientation; Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, student and community members; 1 to 5 years of successful supervisory experience; Effective verbal and written communication skills; Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment; Demonstrated potential to meet criteria for promotion and tenure; Experience working in Access or Public Services in an Academic Library; Knowledge of current trends in Access Services; Experience in Project Planning; Demonstrated ability to initiate, advocate plan and implement user centered services; Demonstrated experience with computer applications including electronic information resources; Active involvement in professional activities and commitment to continued professional development; Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable.

The position is a 12-month appointment with a nationally competitive salary.
