Job Summary

The Georgia Tech Library is seeking a collaborative and knowledgeable librarian to manage the life cycle of the library’s electronic resources and serials, including licensing, access, administration, and support. The Electronic Resources Librarian will work collaboratively with Technical Services librarians and staff to ensure a unified strategy for e-resource acquisition, discovery, delivery, and integration of scholarly resources. This Librarian will serve as the Service Owner for E-Resource management and participate in strategic decision making as a core member of various internal and external committees. The Electronic Resources Librarian will provide expert advice regarding e-resource acquisition and management to inform and support the Georgia Tech Library collection development strategy and be a responsible steward. The Electronic Resources Librarian plays a critical role in the development, implementation, and evolution of strategies and workflows relating to the management of electronic resources and serials for successful research and learning. The GT Library’s acquired content supports the institute teaching and learning mission as well as the billion-dollar research enterprise. The Georgia Tech Library has a unique and progressive service model that relies heavily on technology and electronic formats. Electronic resources account for 99% of our overall content and budget usage. The Electronic Resources Librarian must be committed to meeting the Georgia Tech community’s unique need for innovative, cutting-edge, and collaborative solutions to the issues surrounding electronic content acquisition, access, and discovery. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all e-resources life cycle activities including evaluating, incorporating, and supporting ongoing access to electronic resources and serials.
  • Provide direction and expertise related to establishing and maintaining access to electronic resources including coordinating with vendors, resolving access issues, improving discovery and maintaining accurate records.
  • Lead projects and initiatives to improve upon and educate on electronic resource management workflows and procedures.
  • Collaborates with Technical Services Librarians and other colleagues to ensure a unified strategy for resource acquisition, discovery, delivery, and access of scholarly resources.
  • Develop, document, train and implement on e-resource management best practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in collaborative collection discussions with local, state, and national efforts including, but not limited to, Galileo, NERL, and ASERL.
  • Serve as an ex officio member of the Content Management Group and share expertise the area of electronic resource acquisition, licensing, and maintenance.
  • Serve as a core member of the Discovery Interface Committee.
  • Conducts regular assessments of electronic resource workflows, and operations and implements new projects or services.
  • Document policies and procedures to ensure consistent practices.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science, or equivalent advanced degree.
  • Minimum 2 years of post-MLS experience managing electronic resources within an integrated library system (ILS).
  • Knowledge of current vendors, trends, best practices, and issues related to academic e-resources.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and practices.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • E-resource management experience using Ex Libris’ Alma ILS.
  • Experience with Open Athens link resolver.
  • Experience in licensing electronic resources in an academic library.
  • Proficiency with best practices and standards in library usage data, e.g., COUNTER, SUSHI etc.
  • Experience working with library vendors.
  • Experience leading teams and/or projects.
  • Instruction and/or training experience.
  • Solid record of working collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Demonstrated experience with project management, including planning, communication, and assessment.

Faculty Status

The position will be appointed as a member of the Instructional Faculty of the library, is a non-tenure track, and is required to go through the review and promotion process for librarians and archivists. Library faculty have an effort distribution of 80% excellence in assigned duties, 10% scholarship, and 10% professional service to the library profession or the institute. The librarian/archivist in this position must actively participate in professional and scholarly activities, including institute and professional committees, research, and publication. This is a full-time faculty appointment. Salary and rank are commensurate with credentials and experience. Minimum starting salary for a Librarian I is $60,000 annually.

This position offers flexible work arrangements to include partial remote work.
