Ann Thornton Appointed Columbia University Librarian and Vice Provost

Columbia University has named Ann D. Thornton as university librarian and vice provost, effective June 1, 2015. She is currently the Andrew W. Mellon director of the New York Public Libraries. She is a member of the ARL Board of Directors and was an ARL leadership fellow in the 2009–2010 cohort. At Columbia, Thornton will succeed Jim Neal, who retired December 31, 2014, after 13 years as university librarian and vice president for information services. Damon Jaggars has been serving as interim university librarian during the search process.
