Mary O’Brien Uhlmansiek

Mary O’Brien Uhlmansiek joined ARL in February 2024 as a project director and member of the Scholars and Scholarship team. In a joint position with the California Digital Library (CDL), Mary manages a pilot project involving several leading research libraries to advance institutional coordination around machine-actionable data management and sharing plans. 

Mary is a research specialist with over three decades of experience spanning the research ecosystem, and across academic, governmental, nonprofit, and commercial organizations. Prior to joining ARL, Mary facilitated several research initiatives and oversaw team operations for organizations such as Digital Science, the Research Data Alliance–US, and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Much of her work was in support of initiatives related to data-sharing and research reproducibility; overseeing data repositories and developing data-use policies; implementing software solutions for research operations and data management; and conducting regulatory and ethical review of research. Mary also coordinated a sensitive research program on the assessment and treatment of PTSD for survivors of interpersonal violence at the Center for Trauma Recovery and Children’s Advocacy Center at the University of Missouri at St. Louis.

Mary holds a master of arts in psychology with both clinical and experimental emphasis, as well as a bachelor of arts in psychology, from the University of Missouri at St. Louis.
